Crowns are one of the most common dental procedures. They’re a great restorative treatment because they can solve a variety of issues. In two visits, you’ll get your smile and full chewing function back! If you need a crown, what can you expect during the procedure?
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a cap that fits over a tooth. Made from strong material like porcelain, a crown restores a tooth’s full chewing function. It also improves the tooth’s appearance, so crowns have a cosmetic purpose as well as a restorative one!
When Would You Need a Dental Crown?
Crowns are a commonly used dental procedure because they fix a variety of issues. We use crowns for things like fixing a cracked or broken tooth, strengthening a weak or damaged tooth, and restoring a decayed tooth that can’t be filled. Crowns are also used on top of dental implants and to hold dental bridges in place.
What is the Dental Crown Process?
Getting a dental crown takes two visits. At your first visit, a Hillstream Dental dentist will take X-rays so we can plan the procedure. We’ll then prepare the tooth and get an impression so the crown will fit perfectly. While you’re waiting for your permanent crown to get made, you’ll wear a temporary one. During your second visit, we’ll put in your custom crown and that’s it! Take care of your dental crown by brushing, flossing, and being careful when chewing hard foods.
